“The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body.  So it is with Christ.  For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body.” - 1 Corinthians 12:1-13

Children’s Ministry Team
contact people > Barbara Johnston and Dawn Padden
The CMT leads and assists the children of our congregation in growing deeper through a ministry of discipleship, overseeing programs and activities reaching children and their families that serve to teach, instruct and nurture them as they grow to become fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ. Since we believe that one of the ways transformation comes about is through the faithful teaching and study of God’s word, this is a responsibility of the CMT. All curriculum is Biblically based and approved by the Session. As Presbyterians, we also believe that the traditions of our faith are worthy of study and should be included in the curriculum of Discovery Time and other teaching events.

Much of CMT’s work takes place during Sunday morning Discovery Time, but may also include the development of a mid-week program, VBS, a class for children preparing to receive the Lord’s Supper for the first time, and other programs and/or ministries the team deems appropriate. Because SHPC believes there is a component of fellowship and mission to any quality ministry of discipleship, there will be a strong relational and service component to the CMT programs. Regular fellowship and mission opportunities are planned and carried out, some of which may involve the entire family. For more about the CMT, visit the Discovery Time page here.

Fellowship Ministry Team
contact person > Don Challis
The Fellowship Ministry Team leads and assists the congregation in growing warmer through programs and activities that nurture relationships within the congregation. Since the life of our community is enriched, and common bonds of understanding, caring, and love grow as we meet and get to know one another, the FMT provides a variety of opportunities to the congregation to simply be together.

The FMT coordinates all fellowship activities @ SHPC, including, but not limited to, Sunday morning coffee fellowship, and four quarterly, congregation-wide events.

Foundations Ministry Team
contact person > Char King
Just as all buildings require strong foundations, so too does an individual’s involvement with a local community of faith. The purpose of the FMT is to ensure that this occurs. As the invitational arm of our Body, the team leads the congregation in its attempt to grow broader by overseeing those ministries that involve welcoming people into our church family and then further connecting them into the life of our congregation.

This team coordinates all aspects of our church’s evangelism ministries, planning and carrying out events that will grow members’ capacity to share their faith with others. (DABBL training, ecumenical dialogue, etc.) The team works closely with the church office on advertising and publicity, as well as the Fellowship Ministry Team in the planning of “entry level” activities for the congregation. The team will be responsible for following up on all first time visitors, inviting them to membership in our family, planing and organizing the Foundation’s Classes for new members, and tracking people’s participation in the overall life of the church.

Outreach Ministry Team
contact people > Ann Moore and Nell Wingfield
The outreach ministry team coordinates all mission opportunities for the congregation, develops the caring and loving service ministries of the church, and constantly explores ways to assist the congregation in giving back to God through their walk and witness.

The team focuses on ways of involving the congregation in hands-on mission, ensuring at least six church-wide service opportunities each year, including a biennial mission trip for adults. In 2010, we will be sending a team of adults to Guatemala to support Living Waters International.

Worship Ministry Team
contact people// Bob Melone, Nicole Belanus
Because we believe that “corporate worship is vital to the life of the individual and to the Body of Christ”, we consistently seek to offer creative and relevant worship experiences. This involves using various forms of artistic expression, diverse styles of music, and a healthy blend of both “traditional” and “contemporary” expressions of our faith. While our worship gatherings are designed to assist followers of Jesus Christ to grow in their walks with Him, we are also sensitive to the fact that worship is one of the primary entrance points into our church. For this reason, those planning worship gatherings take into consideration the needs of “seekers” and “unchurched” people who may be with us on a given Sunday morning. While we recognize that God always looks at the heart of a worshipper and considers motive before talent, we still want to offer God our best and continually strive for excellence in our gatherings.

This team oversees all aspects of regular Sunday morning gatherings: arts, audio-visual, music, preaching, and worship volunteers.

Learn more about our worship gatherings by visiting the worship page.

Youth Ministry Team
The YMT seeks to lead the youth of our congregation in growing deeper through a ministry of discipleship. The team oversees programs and activities reaching middle and high school students and their families that serve to teach, instruct and nurture them as they grow to become fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

The YMT oversees the planning and carrying out of youth meetings, summer trips, and any other special retreats or programs. The youth program seeks to provide regular opportunities for fellowship, discipleship, mission/service, and mentoring. Since we believe that the primary means by which spiritual growth occurs is through small groups, the YMT provides leadership and oversight of small groups for our young people. The ministry team also takes the lead in educating families and the congregation as a whole in matters related to youth and youth culture.
