We believe that our call as Christ-followers is to live a life of worship. That means our everyday lives become rich with opportunities to revel in the presence of our Creator. We view our weekly corporate worship gatherings as the joy-filled culmination of our own personal expressions of practicing the daily presence of God in our lives.
" So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you."
Here at SHPC, we think it's tragic that for many churches, worship seems more like a fierce battleground than an act of loving service to our God. Our vision is to move beyond generically labeling ourselves as "traditional" or "contemporary" and to instead be a church that worships authentically, genuinely, with relevance and passion, using the best of both of these models as well as creating new ones. So you'll hear a wide variety of music in our worship gatherings: old, new, hymns and modern "praise" music, secular songs, and even some Stone House originals. We are informal and engaging in our style, and design worship experiences that leave us with a new song in our heart,s new words on our lips, and new challenges to go and "be the church". We play movie clips, we laugh, we pray, we care for one another, and most importantly, we love Jesus and believe that when we gather together in worship, we aren't just at church, we are the church.
If you're coming to experience the love of God with us - or if you're coming just to enjoy a cup of coffee - whatever the reason, we'd love to have you with us.
